We hope you weren’t terribly inconvienced trying to locate our new site (we were terribly inconvienced having to move it); if you have a free minute at the end of the day, please send some hate mail to Domain Deluxe, the gangsters who now own our domain! Okay. Our newest release, the VGM MIX TAPE #8 compilation CD, has hit the streets as of November 11th. Collected on this epic disc are 27 of today’s hottest artists working in the field of video game music. These bands either sample bits of music or sound effects from games, utilize the hardware and/or software, or just emulate the general aesthetics of the classic tunes of the 80’s and early 90’s in their music. Prominent groups on the CD like THE MINIBOSSES, ROLE MODEL, PANICSVILLE, FUTURE EATER, the legendary Commodore 64/Nintendo/Game Boy Jeroen Tel and No Sides’ own ROYAL SPACE FORCE set the models for young upstarts like AONAMI, MODE 7, 2600 and PRODUKT; this CD ends up serving as a pretty accurate and well-balanced representation of the scene. It’s video game music as a worldwide community, not just a genre. Buy this CD immediately and see for yourself just how deep the rabbit-hole goes. If you are in the Chicago area, there will be a record release show and party for the CD in Chicago on Saturday December 6th at the club Buddy in Wicker Park. The lineup should be PANICSVILLE, ROYAL SPACE FORCE, HANDHELD, MULTI-MODAL and Daniel P. of MARK 4. Hope to see you there! We have some new additions to the No Sides roster and it’s high time for you to be properly introduced… Detroit, MI femmethrobs TERROR AT THE OPERA are Faith Gazic on accordian and vocals and Gretchen Gonzales (of SLUMBER PARTY and UNIVERSAL INDIANS) on guitar and vocals. Billy Sides got to see them at their only Chicago performance to date, which was with VIKI and NEON HUNK on Valentine’s Day 2003 and he knew he had to have them. We cannot say enough how proud we are to have picked these gals up. Their rare performances are intimate, sweet and wonderful. We’re sure that they will have a really great album by the end of this year as well. After 6 years in the business, No Sides is happy to shamelessly announce that this is our first year with 2 sets of releases in one year!!! Whoo hoo! Let’s run down some info on our other recent releases from earlier this year. TRUMANS WATER - The Singles 1992-1997 CD This record was a fucking 2-year-long nightmare! But it didn’t matter. We would’ve broken every street date until the end of time to make sure that this thing would go out as perfect as possible. No original master tapes were utilized at any time during the production of this CD- none exist! Music from some of the singles represented here came recorded straight from the vinyl records themselves, usually records that Billy Sides owned himself. All of the material was painstakingly mastered by the very competent hands of Sir Weasel Walter and the layout and design credits go to Weasel and Billy, with additional artwork from ex-LUTTENBACHER William Pisarri. We don’t mean to brag but this is actually the most sickeningly “professional-looking” TRUMANS WATER disc since Godspeed The Vortex. Anyway the collection features 7 classic TW 7” singles (not 8-?!?), one of which we literally found out about while in pre-production of the CD (half of the band didn’t even acknowledge its existence), along with the accompanying picture sleeves, of course. A lot of hard, time-gobbling work went into making this dream a reality and we definitely need to take this opportunity to give some shout-outs to some people because this CD would not exist without their help: Rafter Roberts at Singing Serpent Studios in San Diego, Josh Vanek at Wantage Records, the fine people at the Record Exchange in Chicago, the guy who thought up Ebay.com, and extra-special thanks goes to Mr. Walter, who really came through on this record in more ways than we care to list for you. Triple-kudos-style thanks also goes to the very patient people at S & J CD in Florida. TRUMANS WATER, themselves, toured Europe through May and June, supporting the release of the Singles comp. and for their 15th full-length studio album You Are In The Line Of Fire And They Are Shooting At You, released on the Italian label Homesleep. As long-time fans of the band, we are truly honored to have released this great collection of music and are very pleased to see that they are still going strong after 12 long years. ROYAL SPACE FORCE - Uber Code 3” CD EP Those who want to hear this amazing 8-bit composition had better act fast! This CD, until now, has only been available in Chicago and Japan and it’s already half-gone! Uber Code is an unedited start-to-finish dual-Game Boy performance from ROYAL SPACE FORCE’s show with COIN and NEON HUNK which happened at the Fire Side Bowl in Chicago back in July of ’01. For those of you who don’t know about the different types of Game Boy music programs, there are several types; some are easier but more limited and then there’s really elaborate “tracker” programs which have no boundaries. R.S.F’s Ray Silvermae and Jacob Phalanx chose to work with the hidden music program available with the Game Boy Camera, which only has a capacity of 16 notes and operates with a standard “guitar/bass/drums” approach to creating the jams. Well, we gotta tell you that we still don’t know how they pulled it off! This great-sounding AND great-looking (first…?) edition of only 250 CDs comes with handmade “art-stickers” made via the hard-to-find Game Boy Printer in 3 different colors: white, blue or yellow! You just gotta see ‘em to believe ‘em. This CD is a must-have for the hardcore video game music collectors out there and fans of new and interesting electronic music should check this out as well. ROYAL SPACE FORCE are hoping to steer out of an asteroid field’s worth of down-time, due to both Ray relocating to San Diego last year for a comfy lil’ office at Qualcomm and Jacob being very busy with school. Their track on the VGM CD is a brand-new track, mind you. MALADE DE SOUCI - MMMM-bbaa CD What can we say? Very little is known about this ultra-mysterious robo/punky-mathy/prog/no wave trio, and we ourselves don’t really know much more than you. What we can say is that they hail from the St. Louis area and their names are Bruce (guitar), Jim (homemade double-neck guitar and bass) and Nina (drums). In late 2000 they authored the truly awesome and unique 29-song “EP” Novmmbr Aign for the French label CB International. Not much has really happened since then. The band has played about half a handful of shows ever; less than 5. They’re really not active anymore as a unit, and Jim has moved onto the above-mentioned YOWIE. However, this 2nd CD by the band is an absolute must-have for fans of the true expansion and experimentation with what is known as music. MALADE DE SOUCI’s music can only be described as “maze-rock” and seriously needs to be heard to be believed. It’s a good record to have for all those YOWIE fans who are patiently waiting for that band’s album. Please check the CD out. It will be on special sale until the end of the year so act now!
